I believe the gas models might be a bit much to handle for more than a few minutes.
I have a homelite gas hedge trimmer that is noticably lighter than the Stihl or Echo. The Homelite is no longer made, but can be found occasionally used (i.e. on ebay). These trimmers have been perfectly adequate for my home use, though they are not built to the quality of either the Stihl or Echo that you mentioned. I would guess the weight is around 8 lbs for this type trimmer. They are the lightest gas trimmers I have ever seen. For reference a photo is shown in the link. This same engine can be found in different models with 16, 17, 21, and 22 inch cutting blades.

A woman’s ex-boyfriend entered her apartment through an unlocked door on June 22 in the 300 block of Gwynnbrook Avenue in Owings Mills, police said. The man kicked open the woman’s bathroom door, assaulted her, and left. There is a warrant for his arrest.
I've had a Echo SRM-2501 since 1992 and have only cleaned the exhaust port and changed the spark plug every spring. Thats it! Also have a 1994 LESCO LBB-4200 made by Echo. Only thing I have done is to update the air filter and just now replace the flex blower tube. This blower will not die! Its fallen off my truck (don't ask) and slid across the street, not once, but twice! Few scratches and keeps on ticking! I also have a 199? whatever year they came out, split shaft multi-tool that I use as a dedicated stick edger. Runs great!

Mobility is one of the biggest factors in choosing either a corded or cordless hedge trimmer. Hi, thanks for all the advice. I did get ethanol-free gas mixed it with the oil and put the Stabil and a bit of carburetor cleaner in it.
I have been priming it every now and then. I did actually start up a couple of times. The second time I ran the throttle. Lots of black smoke came out before it died.

Hi Mowjoman, I had the husky that you describe & traded it in on an Echo!
The gearbox was forever jamming up & the exhaust outlet is facing the direction of the bush you are trimming. This caused large brown patches on the shrubs I pruned to appear after I'd gone, as they got burnt by the exhaust (thus causing unhappy customers!) And mate, is that unit HEAVY! It doesn't feel it in the shop, but once you're out working with it, ouch!

On May 4, a representative of Wayne Chapel on Rouse Road, Kinston, reported someone broke into their premises and stole the following: A Peavey cordless microphone and reciever valued at $450; a cordless microphone valued at $180; a Peavey 12-channel mixing board valued at $800; a CD player valued at $50; a camera monitor valued at $150; a communion tray valued at $150, a Sunbeam water cooler valued at $100. Damages to a door/casing were estimated at $350; damages to a window/casing were estimated at $250; damages to an interior wall were estimated at $150.
Too bad I didn't see this sooner. I had an old ECHO SRM 1500 and when I could no longer start it I purchased the Husqvarna 223L.
For the 15 years I used the ECHO I did minimum trimming as I couldn't wait to be done with this dreadful chore. I was able to mow inside a large ditch in front of the house so I trimmed only around the house and trees. I had no problems with any of my other ECHO equipment but I was miserable every minute I used the ECHO trimmer. This was the only trimmer I ever used and I didn't know the difference. The only way I can describe my ECHO troubles is that trimming was difficult for me every step of the way, even though the trimmer appeared to work well. With the ECHO I started to avoid trimming whenever possible due to aching arms, back, legs, neck.

Two men were arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with burglary and theft after New Milford police received reports that the suspects were seen removing landscaping equipment from a trailer.
Travis Marazo, 22, of West Milford and Michael Eckardt, 18, of Bergenfield were both arrested and charged with burglary and theft after a search of the vehicle in which they were travelling led police to recover a stolen gasoline-powered trimmer, according to police Chief Frank Papapietro.
