Hedge trimmer choices and seeking notice - Work Cast off Forum - GardenWeb

I believe the gas models might be a bit much to handle for more than a few minutes.

I have a homelite gas hedge trimmer that is noticably lighter than the Stihl or Echo. The Homelite is no longer made, but can be found occasionally used (i.e. on ebay). These trimmers have been perfectly adequate for my home use, though they are not built to the quality of either the Stihl or Echo that you mentioned. I would guess the weight is around 8 lbs for this type trimmer. They are the lightest gas trimmers I have ever seen. For reference a photo is shown in the link. This same engine can be found in different models with 16, 17, 21, and 22 inch cutting blades.

Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi String Head, ryobi string trimmers, homelite string trimmer

Lawnmower Repair . Certified Master Service Technician from B&S. Have 13 years experience on B&S, Lawn Chief, Weed Eater, Echo, Peerless, Wheel Horse, Snapper, Atlas, MTD, McCulloch, Homelite and many other numerous brands. Specialize in electrical repair.

Born and raised in the midwest. Started tinkering with engines when I was about 14 on my Suzuki RM-80. I began lawn mower repair at a small hardware store. I knew absolutely nothing. I read lots of repair manuals and met an older fellow who taught me many lessons. I continued working on small engines through high school and paid my way through college working on mowers at the same hardware store. Decided to get away from the midwest and mower repair so I joined the Air Force. I repaired air traffic control electronic equipment and ended up in Hawaii where I got a part time job at Small Engine Clinic. I gained a lot of experience from the Small Engine Clinic and had a blast repairing small engines. I then took the Briggs and Stratton Master Service Technician test and earned my MST. I then traveled to Wisconsin where I attended the factory update training seminar and received formal training. I received a scholarship from the Air Force and am currently pursuing another degree.

Homelite Bandit SX 135 Trimmer - Tool Shed Forum - GardenWeb

First of all your SX135 comes with a Zama. Nothing wrong with Zama. Echo and Stihl both use them, and Stihl recently acquired Zama.

Usually complaints about Zama are because people took a ham-fisted approach to working on them. You can screw up a Walbro, Tillotson, or Mikuni just as easily.

You Homelite has an EPA mandated Emissions carb, meaning it has limiter caps on the Low and High Speed needles. These only allow you to adjust about 1/4 turn.

CLEAN-CUT THOSE BUSHES - Homelite 17" Stirring Hedge Trimmer Ut44110 - Epinions.com

If you are reading this, I’ll assume that you checked Shopping.com or Epinions.com because you wanted an inexpensive Hedge trimmer that you could snag at your nearest Home Depot or Walmart.

While I cannot speak to the long-term ( 1 -5 year) reliability of this product, do to the fact I purchased it recently, I can say that if you have the average home and you have basic edging needs, this trimmer will get the job done and keep your grounds looking neat.

Short Motor Intricate Forum • Over subject-matter - Homelite HT-19 Hedge Trimmer

I am looking for a repair or service manual for my Homelite HT-19 Hedge Trimmer. I am trying to figure out how to take apart the bottom cover for the blade drive. There are four screws holding it on but I am not familiar with this type of unit. I do not know what is under the plate and I want to be able to put it back together after inspecting it. I do not know if there is a spring or anything that will fall apart from removal of the cover. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

(ET) More Homelite tools on 24v: Hedge trimmer

Ok, so I got another one of these Homelite/Ryobi 18 volt garden tools on Ebay. I think I paid $10 for this one, plus $10 shipping or something like that. It's brand new, and like the chainsaw it comes apart with screws. Nice and logical interior; no surprises to note. I re-wired it to accept an anderson power disconnect, and hooked it up to the 24 volt extension cord on my E20. Really nice actually. It did a nice job trimming some large bushes, and was only nice and warm by the end. Once again probably not something for constant use, but for trimming around the yard it does a great job. 24 volts didn't seem to make it run too fast or anything, looks like one can run a motor slightly over voltage without wrecking anything (makes sense; the winches on the Elec-Traks are 12 volt units running at 18 volts). And once again running these things on the 24 volts doesn't seem to unbalance the pack much. Maybe if I ran it all day I would have a problem, but running it every once in a while seems to do no real harm. Next thing to get is a pole saw to see how that works. They seem inexpensive too..... :-) Chris

Assistance w/ dredded Homelite trimmer - Tool Shed Forum - GardenWeb

As far as carburetor adjustments...

There will either be 2 or 3 screws to adjust on the carburetor. With two adjustments, you would most likely control the low-speed mixture and idle speed. If you have a third adjustment screw, that would most likely be for high-speed mixture.

A good rule of thumb on the mixture screws is to turn them clockwise until they do not want to turn anymore. This will seat them against the carb body. Don't seat them too tightly against the carb body, or you could damage it. Just turn until you can tell they are seated, but don't try to force them any further. Then back each adjustment screw out 1 full turn. This should be good enough to at least get it running.

Homelite trimmers - Bob Is The Oil Guy

I rarely ever log in here, so rarely in fact that I'd forgotten my PW but heregoes

I have one of theses cheepie little red trimmers, and I was amazed to learn that there is no air filter on them when they come from the factory, none! I emailed them about this and I received a "the screen should be sufficient" reply. Yah right fellas. I had some foam that's about the same consistency as the eggcrate stuff but flat and cut a filter to go in the cover that has a place for a filter.

Homelite Trimmer Problems [Archive] - LawnSite.com?? - Lawn Care & Landscaping Business Forum Powered by Moose River Media

mitchell--are you using a st-275 trimmer? if so it's a great trimmer. I run them all the time.

here's the answer to you'r problem:

1)--wind the line properly. follow the arrows.

2)--use "weed terminator" line, .080. available at home depot.

3)--make sure that your bump head knob is not worn out. pavement and concrete erode the edges and thickness of the knob and when you bump the head the line wont advance.

Homelite String Trimmer Fuel Tank Help - Lawn Mowers Forum - GardenWeb

You should be able to replace the fuel line, fish the old filter out of the tank, and reuse with the new line.

Two things to keeep in mind. You need special fuel grade PVC Tubing. Tygon brand is yellow and fairly expensive at $.75 to $1.00 a foot. The clear stuff at Home Depot and Lowes is OK with fuel and much cheaper ($.15 - $.20/ft) but the sizing usually won't work. Correct tubing from McMaster-Carr in Tygon is 5555K43 9/64 OD x 5/64 ID and 5555K22 3/16 OD x 3/32 ID. Both are about $.75 per foot. You need to measure which one is appropriate for your machine. Size is critical, because too big and you won't get it into the tank; too small and the tank will leak where the tubing passes thru.

Homelite Electrifying, Forthrightly, 17 In. Bayonet, Hedge Stick Trimmer Reviews | Buzzillions.com

Electric, Straight, 17 In. Blade, Hedge Pole Trimmer

"This Homelite Hedge Pole Trimmer replaces a five-year old electric pole trimmer which had done well but is wearing out … and doesn’t have features I like on the Homelite.

Homelite’s “extendable handle†helps in trimming difficult places (in my case … a fig-ivy growing on a two story house square brick column which is part of a balcony). With my height, Homelite’s 65 inches, and the extendable handle (18 inches), a12-foot reach is attainable to the middle of the cutting blade straight up; and that works great for me.
