My dog Amy got sprayed this spring (first time I ever had this happen) BUT skunks are attracted to food and my bird feeder is in the back yard, which I can't move every night.
Putting the garage light on, did not stop the skunk from visiting the bird seeder at night.
Solution - I quickly trained my Dobe (in seconds), to pee on the front lawn, when dark / end of our problem.
During the day, she will "due her business" in the back yard, like usual.
This method means, I personally take the dog out side before bedtime & instruct her movement via verbal commands.
If your dog sleeps ouside, with food around - TRAP the SKUNK $ RELOCATE.
- you have a beautiful shephard there - Skunk spray, in the eyes & mouth can cause health problems
- first bath to help remove skunk spray, with 2 or 3 large cans of tomoto juice rubbed in the dog's coat - followed by specific shampoo / Nature's Miracle Skunk Odour Removal from PetSmart - if need be Baking Soda & water to rinse out the eyes to take the acid sting out)
