MEMPHIS, Tenn. - This storm season across the Mid-South has wreaked havoc on two things: power lines and trees. With high winds and heavy rain the trees came down, many times taking down power lines and knocking out power to thousands.
"It would be a good idea for customers to have their trees checked," said Jackie Reed with MLGW. "In the case of root rot with straight line winds coming and heavy storms, those trees are going to be uprooted and could cause damage to homes and power lines."
If you have trees, big or small, on your property, MLGW urges that you take advantage of their tree service.
"People can actually call 544-6549, that's our customer care number, and they can have the trimmers come out there; this is free," Reed said. "If you see limbs are hanging or touching power lines, call that number, have someone come out and trim those trees before it gets worse and we experience a storm; then you are with an outage because of downed limbs that caused your lines to go down."
She added that you should also get your trees checked out by a professional, and to never try to trim tree branches yourself if they are near to or touching power lines. The tree trimming service offered by MLGW is free to all customers.
