STIHL Inc. is recalling about 5,000 chain saws after receiving three reports that the throttle trigger can stick, posing an injury hazard. No injuries have been reported, according to a joint announcement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall involves model MS 361 C, which was sold at STIHL dealers nationwide between February 2004 and August 2009 for about $640. The chain saw has an orange casing, a black handle, and has a rear-handle-activated chain braking system. The model number is visible on on the left side of the starter cover.
If the throttle trigger sticks after it has been released by the operator, the saw chain could potentially continue to rotate. The unexpected chain motion could put the user or a bystander at risk.
Consumers should take the affected chain saw to an authorized STIHL dealer, who will replace the throttle trigger at no charge.
There are 10 STIHL dealers located in the Washington, DC metro area. Locate your closest dealer at the STIHL web site, or call 1-800-610-6677.
Just last week, STIHL announced a recall for about 1,000 trimmers because some trimmer heads loosened or detached due to vibration of the ignition module.
